At River Roan Kennels we have a very simple philosophy. We believe that training your dog should be fun, innovative, with low pressure and stress on your dog. We limit the amount of dogs that are in our program each month. With that being said, all dogs that are in our program receives a higher quality of training and in return you get more for your money. We also love to get our clients involved with training! Once we get towards the end of your dogs training we get the humans involved so that you can enjoy all that your dog has to offer.
About Owner & Trainer
Joe Finney
Christian. Hardworking. Ambitious. Goal Driven & Dog Fanatic! These are just a few of the characteristics that describe me best. 19 years ago I bought and trained my first retriever. Although I had no clue what I was doing at the time, I figured out real quick that my pup was actually teaching me and setting the course for the rest of my life. Shortly after that, I knew I wanted to learn more and I was lucky enough to start training and working with some of the best armature and pro trainers around and crafting my skill that would get me to where I am now. At the time I was just wanting to train my personal dogs and give them the best I had to offer and that quickly turned to training dogs for friends and then eventually clients. Due to having a full time career I could only handle a few dogs at a time and that worked just fine for almost 15 years. With the birth of my son, my wife and I started having serious conversations about me leaving the corporate world and start training dogs full time. With a lot of prayer and huge support from family and clients, I decided it was my time to leave the corporate world behind and open River Roan Kennels! We're so excited for this next journey in lives and we hope that you choose River Roan Kennels for all of your training needs.
Training Services
At River Roan Kennels, we offer everything from puppy programs to advanced gundog work. If competing in hunt test or field trials is your thing, we can also get your dog ready to compete at any level of competition. We also serve clients with obedience needs and just wants a fully obedient family dog that they can enjoy on and off leash.
Retriever Training
Retriever training is where it all started for us! With that being said, we take a lot of pride in bringing out the absolute best in your retriever. We offer everything from puppy programs to finished gundog work and also competitive AKC & HRC Hunt Test preparation. After 18 years of retriever training we've learned that not all dogs are created equal and with some you have to get creative to help them reach their goals.
Upland Training
At River Roan Kennels, upland training is our specialty! We offer everything from puppy programs to advanced gundog work and getting your dog ready to compete in AKC Master Level Hunt Test or NAVHDA Testing. We strongly believe that the key to having a great gundog in the field is having a great foundation. We bring out all of your dogs natural ability then mold, shape and teach all the things to make them great in the field.
Obedience Training
Obedience training is a great way to establish good behaviors and gain control of your rowdy pup or family adult dog. We offer you and your pet an exceptional level of obedience, which allows you to bring your dog anywhere, hassle-free and totally obedient! We thrive on seeing the joy on clients faces when they can truly enjoy walks, hiking or just enjoying family time with their totally obedient pet in the home!
